Washington Manufacturing Alert is a publication of Northwest Newsletter Group.

 

        Northwest Newsletter Group, founded in March 2009 and based in Renton, Washington, publishes subscription-based e-mail and print newsletters covering specific industries and interest niches. In addition to Washington Manufacturing Alert, it also produces Pacific Northwest Rail News, which covers everything from model railroading to transit and tourist lines and working railroads, in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and British Columbia.

 

        Bill Virgin is a veteran business reporter, founder of Northwest Newsletter Group and Publisher and Editor of its Washington Manufacturing Alert and Pacific Northwest Rail News. Most recently he was business columnist and reporter for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, where he worked for more than 18 years.

 

        His columns were on multiple occasions named as the best business columns in the Northwest. For the P-I, he covered banking, manufacturing, utilities and energy and radio.

 

        He also worked for the Tacoma News Tribune, and before that the Weirton Daily Times and Charleston Daily Mail, both in West Virginia.

 

        Almost his entire newspaper career of 32 years has been spent covering business.  Manufacturing has always been a major component of that coverage, starting with the steel industry in the late 1970s and moving on to coal, chemicals, glass, aluminum, forest products, electronics, aerospace, trucks, food processing, industrial equipment and many other niches.

 

        He has a bachelor's degree in journalism from Ohio State University (where he was editor of the campus paper, The Lantern), a bachelor's degree from West Virginia State College and a master's degree in business from City University.
