Veteran Northwest business journalist Bill Virgin is the founder, editor and publisher of Washington Manufacturing Alert, which began in publishing in April 2009.
Washington Manufacturing Alert is part of Northwest Newsletter Group, a Renton-based company that produces subscription-based newsletters covering specific industries and interest niches. He is editor and publisher of Pacific Northwest Rail News, a monthly about railroad topics in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and British Columbia .
Virgin also writes a weekly column on business and economics for The News Tribune in Tacoma, a monthly column for Seattle Business magazine and a column for Clearing Up, a Seattle-based utilities and energy newsletter.
He and his wife Jenny Cole are co-owners of Page 2 Books, a store in Burien.
He worked for more than 18 years at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, including nine as its business columnist. He also covered banking, utilities and energy, manufacturing and radio.
Before joining the P-I in 1990, he worked for the News Tribune and the Charleston Daily Mail and Weirton Daily Times, the latter two newspapers in West Virginia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Ohio State University, a bachelor’s in business from West Virginia State College and a master’s degree from City University in Bellevue. He also served as president of the Washington Press Association.
